I picked up three new Citadel Layer paints last month. Here's how they performed against the equivalents I already had on the desk.

Coverage

The new formulation covers in two thin coats over a mid-tone basecoat. The old formulation needed three.

The difference is most visible on the warm colours — the reds and oranges. The cool side is roughly the same as before.

Flow

Out of the pot, the new paints are slightly thicker. With a single drop of medium they thin to where I want them. Nothing surprising.

Verdict

Worth buying if you're already in the Citadel ecosystem. Not worth switching from another brand for. The improvement is real but small.
